Spinners, toys, and other disruptive items...
These toys are to be put away during class. They will be confiscated if out during class.
If confiscated, they can be picked up at the end of the school day.
Electronic Device Use
1. Students will have access to Chromebooks in the classroom two or three times a week. Students are only to use the Chromebook assigned to them, need to personally get their Chromebook, treat the Chromebook correctly, put their own Chromebook away, and plug their Chromebook back in to the correct portal on the Chromebook cart.
2. In order to practice 21st Century communication skills and to engage in on-the-spot research during class discussions, students from time to time may be allowed limited use of personal hand-held technology for academic purposes when permission is given.
3. All cell phones, electronic devices, and accessories (earbuds, etc.) as well as cases and look-like electronic devices that are brought to class are to be put in the student's assigned slot in the classroom organizer when coming to class. If the student does not do this and the device is seen or heard, it will be confiscated until the end of class. Repeated abusers of this policy will have their device turned in to the office, following the school procedure.
4. Listening to music on your device is not an option. The latest research shows that music with words limits thinking ability as the brain tries to multitask. Students are to be listening to the class discussion and instruction even during work times.
5. No inappropriate topics are to be discussed or accessed on electronic devices. This includes playing games, viewing videos, snapchats, checking the time, or any other such function.
6. It is highly recommended that students check their grades electronically. However, this is a function that needs to take place outside of class.
7. No making or receiving phone calls or text messages, etc. during class. This includes phone calls from friends, parents, or other family members. Parents who need to contact their children must do so through the office, as per the school policy.
8. During standardized tests (Terra Nova, OAA, etc.), electronic devices are to be left in lockers until the test is concluded.
9. Any other loopholes that you think you can do and get by with will be considered inappropriate.
10. Students are responsible for their own devices. Since cell phones should be kept in lockers, if the student does bring it to class and something happens to it, it is still the student's responsibility. Do not allow other students to borrow or use your cell phone!
Students, please use your electronic device in a positive, accountable, and safe manner. Your willingness to follow these rules will show your desire to keep the privilege of having personal electronic device use in class.
